AUSTIN, TX (October 10, 2020)…“When things go South, I’m cleaning house.” Austin-based Americana Singer-Songwriter, Leeann Atherton, urges us to rev-up for the November 3rd election with her new politically-charged single, “Cleaning House.” Off of her critically acclaimed album Fallen Angel, the song is a soulful-rocker with lyrics that suggest an out with the old and in with the new mindset, one that can be applied to ousting the current Trump administration and ushering in peace and understanding with Joe Biden and other Democratic positions on the ballot.
While some artists shy away from making political statements, it is no surprise that Atherton cuts right to the heart of the issue, vigorously proclaiming her beliefs, a trait that comes across similarly in her electric live performances and honest personality. With powerhouse vocals often compared with Bonnie Raitt’s grit, Billie Holiday’s understated soulfulness, and Janis Joplin’s raw power, “Cleaning House” is teed up to be the election anthem for Team Blue this fall.
On writing the song Atherton notes, “The phrase ‘Cleaning House’ is used in the recovery community to represent digging deep into your heart to let go of stuff that’s holding you down. During the pandemic this song started to take on a new life as I began to apply it to the current administration. With that in mind, I knew I wanted to make a political stance with this song and go all in on the video to express my beliefs – that Black Lives Matter, love is love, science is real, and that we can all come together and use our right to vote.”
