Leeann Atherton Releases New Single and Lyric Video for “Cleaning House”
Americana-Soul Election Anthem for Team Blue Inspires Change and Action
AUSTIN, TX (October X, 2020)…“When things go South, I’m cleaning house.” Austin-based Americana Singer-Songwriter, Leeann Atherton, urges us to rev-up for the November 3rd election with her new politically-charged single, “Cleaning House.” Off of her critically acclaimed album Fallen Angel, the song is a soulful-rocker with lyrics that suggest an out with the old and in with the new mindset, one that can be applied to ousting the current Trump administration and ushering in peace and understanding with Joe Biden and other Democratic positions on the ballot.
While some artists shy away from making political statements, it is no surprise that Atherton cuts right to the heart of the issue, vigorously proclaiming her beliefs, a trait that comes across similarly in her electric live performances and honest personality. With powerhouse vocals often compared with Bonnie Raitt’s grit, Billie Holiday’s understated soulfulness, and Janis Joplin’s raw power, “Cleaning House” is teed up to be the election anthem for Team Blue this fall.
On writing the song Atherton notes, “The phrase ‘Cleaning House’ is used in the recovery community to represent digging deep into your heart to let go of stuff that’s holding you down. During the pandemic this song started to take on a new life as I began to apply it to the current administration. With that in mind, I knew I wanted to make a political stance with this song and go all in on the video to express my beliefs – that Black Lives Matter, love is love, science is real, and that we can all come together and use our right to vote.”
A veteran in the Austin community, she has made records with legendary producer Rich Brotherton, as well as a Jazz Standards project with Slim Richey, and regularly collaborates with A-list session players in the scene. “When it comes to barn burning vocalists from Austin, TX, they don’t come any hotter than Leeann Atherton,” The Austin Chronicle’s Margaret Moser affirms. “She’s got Southern fireball pipes that don’t quit and an indefatigable spirit.”
Her latest offering, Fallen Angel, is a full-band record produced by Mac McNabb, Atherton’s guitar player and fellow co-writer on “Cleaning House,” which features bandmates Kevin Lance, Coleman Berg, and the late Barry “Frosty” Smith, a legendary session drummer who passed in 2017.
“Cleaning House” is sure to get heads turning, feet tapping, and ignite those ready for change to get out and make their voices heard. “I hope the song will inspire others to really look at ‘cleaning the house’ and do the work to get our democracy and decency back by getting out the vote,” Atherton proclaims. “I love America and our spirit of Liberty and Justice for ALL!”
“Cleaning House” is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, CD Baby, iTunes and more.
